TCM ACUPUNCTURE

THE TREATMENT & MY THOUGHTS

xArtboard 1
TCM Acupuncture is an ancient therapy which looks to resolve the root cause of your issues. That essentially involves the stimulation of various points through the use of small sterile needles

Most Traditional Eastern medicine is based on the idea that within the body there are meridians, they are essentially channels for your Qi (Chi) to flow around, when they get blocked, the Qi can’t flow and it leads to health problems. So within TCM you will go through a long and thorough consultation process and before your first treatment. From this I work out what the diagnosis is and come up with a specific treatment plan and prescription of points for you. Sometimes the issues can be resolved within a few sessions but for longer or more complex issues, a course of intensive treatments followed by regular maintenance will be the plan. So the number of session required will vary from 2 to 8 or more.

How it works, is that by inserting the needles in the correct place you are pulling all the building blocks that the body needs to heal itself to the area it needs them. Water, nutrients, oxygen and electrons are all pulled towards the needle. This is why the effects may not be instantanious but may take a few days/weeks to be seen, because the body is healing and rebuilding from the inside out.
It’s a lovely therapy and can achieve some great results, especially for people with long term chronic issues or issues where Western medicine has given up trying to diagnose.

HISTORY

Whilst the origins of TCM is mostly lost, it is believed to have been developed and passed down through verbal communication. So, the exact origin is unknown. But over thousands of years, it has been developed and refined to create a more concise practice. It is based on many theories that have evolved over time as more teachings and philosophies entered the culture, and more was understood about the body. Ever evolving, this practice became more refined. It is based around the 12 Zang Fu organs and their relationship with each other. Where the acupuncturist aims to resolve any stagnation and get the Qi flowing again.
Chinese acupuncture often uses thicker needles inserted more deeply in order to illicit the De Qi. The De Qi is the sensation that is felt when the needles are inserted, some people experience this as a deep ache and other experience it as a tingling or electrical sensation. This shows the needles are in the correct place.
